Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development C.V. Ganesan on Wednesday chaired a meeting at the Cuddalore Collectorate to review precautionary measures being undertaken by various departments in view of heavy rains in the district.
The Minister said that additional safety measures had been put in place at 23 locations, which witnessed heavy damages during last year’s rains. The government has taken up a series of steps, including strengthening of river banks and embankments. Works to the tune of ₹54 crore are under way. In addition, as many as 233 rain relief centres had been kept ready across the district to accommodate rain-hit families, he said.
Personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are on standby. Besides, snake catchers have been alerted to assist during emergencies. All precautionary measures had been taken and officers of various departments were monitoring the situation closely, Mr. Ganesan said.
