Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai on Friday (May 15, 2026) condemned the Union government for hiking petrol and diesel prices by ₹3, pointing out that the fuel price hike has come at a time when prices of other essential products have also increased.

In a statement, he said that the hike in fuel prices would increase overall inflation. “The Union government has already hiked gas prices. There is a danger of this fuel price hike resulting in the prices of vegetables and other food products rising,” he said.

He slammed the Union government for not passing on the benefits of low oil prices in the international markets. “The government kept the gains for itself. It must reduce the excise duty,” he demanded.
