Agartala: Tripura Police on Tuesday night seized a cache of suspicious tools and equipment suspected to be used for manufacturing arms from the residence of a man in West Tripura district, officials said.
The seizure was made during a raid at the house of Balbir Singh, a resident of Kartik Chowmuhani area under Amtali police station limits, following specific intelligence inputs about illegal activities at the premises.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Amtali, Paramita Pandey, said the police had received secret information regarding the presence of arms-related materials at Singh’s residence. Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by sub-inspector Mrinal Paul rushed to the spot and carried out a thorough search of the house.
During the search operation, the police recovered seven cartridge cases, bullets and several tools and pieces of equipment that appeared to be meant for manufacturing or modifying firearms, Pandey said. The seized items have been taken into custody and will be sent for forensic examination to determine their exact nature and the purpose for which they were used.
She said Balbir Singh was arrested from his residence in connection with the seizure and would be produced before a competent court. A case under relevant provisions of the Arms Act has been registered at Amtali police station.
According to the police, various types of tools were found stored inside the house, raising suspicion about their possible use in illegal arms-related activities. The official said further investigation was underway to ascertain whether the accused was involved in manufacturing firearms, supplying components or maintaining links with any organised network.
Police are also trying to trace the source of the cartridge cases and bullets seized from the premises and are examining whether similar activities were carried out earlier.
