Prayagraj: To improve railway station management, the North Central Railway (NCR) headquarters in Prayagraj has operationalised a state-of-the-art centralised surveillance system. The initiative allows real-time monitoring of 21 major railway stations, including Prayagraj Junction, Kanpur Central, Jhansi, and Mathura, on a large screen by the general manager at the NCR headquarters.The control room is equipped with six large screens and advanced computer systems that provide direct access to CCTV feeds from platforms, buildings, ticket counters, circulating areas, and even waste bins at connected stations. This enables live monitoring of every activity, ensuring improved cleanliness, security, and overall passenger experience.In the trial run of system’s effectiveness, NCR’s GM Naresh Pal Singh noticed passengers taking selfies at Platform 1 of Prayagraj Junction and commented, “Station cleanliness should be such that people want to capture it in their memories.” Moments later, a camera spotted trash outside a bin at another location, prompting an immediate alert. Within minutes, a cleaning team addressed the issue, showcasing the system’s quick response capability.Key stations such as Agra, Gwalior, Chitrakoot, Khajuraho, Naini, Banda, and Chheoki are already connected to the system. The integration of stations like Fatehpur, Aligarh, Tundla, Mirzapur, Manikpur, and Shikohabad is in the final stages.The GM has directed that more stations across the NCR zone be brought under this centralised monitoring system. The initiative is being hailed as a revolutionary step towards transparent, prompt, and efficient railway operations. It not only enhances accountability but also sets a new benchmark for station management across Indian Railways.
