Motivation provides the initial spark to start a task or goal, but discipline is the consistent effort and habit that sustains you, carrying you through challenges and building long-term success when feelings fade, said faculty member at the University of Massachusetts Chaerin Kim.
Delivering a guest lecture titled ‘Professional Development, Mental Focus and Discipline to be Global Leaders’, organised by the Department of Science and Humanities at Siddhartha Deemed University on Friday (December 12), Ms. Kim said motivation is the fuel, while discipline is the engine and roadmap, turning initial excitement into real, lasting achievement.
She advised the students to shift from a fixed mindset (believing abilities are static) to a growth mindset (believing abilities develop with effort) and encouraged them to embrace challenges, see effort as key, learn from failure as a chance to improve, and value strategies over innate talent, fostering resilience and higher achievement.
Vice-chancellor P. Venkateswara Rao, Pro vice-chancellor A.V. Ratna Prasad, registrar M. Ravichand and dean D. Venkat Rao were present.
