The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of singer Zubeen Garg is expecting to receive CCTV footage and witness statements from Singapore Police within the next 10 days.
SIT chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta, who led a two-member team to Singapore earlier this week, said their visit and meeting with a five-member team of the Singapore Police on October 21 had been “fruitful.”
Speaking to the media on Friday, Gupta said the Singapore Police shared the post-mortem report with the SIT through the Indian High Commission. “We informed Singapore Police that we wish to complete our investigation within a specific timeframe and requested their legal assistance. They assured us of full cooperation within the provisions of Singapore’s legal system,” he said.
The SIT also visited several locations linked to the case and carried out related legal procedures during the visit. Gupta said the team had requested CCTV footage from the hotel where Garg stayed, but the footage could only be obtained through Singapore Police as per their laws. “They have assured a positive response within 10 days,” he added.

The SIT has also sought statements from several Singapore nationals connected to the case through India’s Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT). “Singapore Police will record their statements and contact us within 10 days,” Gupta said, declining to disclose details of the findings so far.
He said that once Singapore Police conclude their investigation, the findings will be submitted to the country’s State Coroner for further proceedings.
Gupta added that the SIT would file its charge sheet within the time stipulated under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). If necessary, Singapore-based Assamese expats who were with Garg before his death may be summoned to India for questioning. Statements of 10 of the 11 expats have already been recorded.
“(Garg’s wife) Garima Saikia Garg arrived today at the CID office to give her statement. It was required,” Gupta said.
