Cong Leaders Scared

Congress (I) leaders who allegedly played a controversial role during the November riots in Delhi are scared. Shaken after the gruesome murder of Lalit Maken, MP, five weeks ago, and Arjun Dass, metropolitan councillor, this week, they fear they could be targets now of organised vendetta.

PM Worried

The Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, expressed concern over the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Delhi and directed the concerned authorities to make all-out efforts to apprehend the killers of Metropolitan Councillor Arjun Dass. Soon after visiting the hospital to inquire about Arjun Dass’s condition, the Prime Minister called the Home Minister, S B Chavan, in his South Block office and reportedly asked him to initiate urgent measures to improve the law-and-order situation in the city.

Border Curfew

The district authorities clamped an 11-hour night curfew in the 500 metre Indo-Pakistan border belt as a special measure to check the infiltration of undesirable elements from across the border during the election period. The curfew from 7.00 pm to 6.00 am daily will remain in force till September 30. Liquor vends throughout the district have been ordered to close after 8.00 pm daily.
