District-level selection trials under the ‘Mukhyamantri Udayiman Khiladi Unnayan Yojana’ (Chief Minister’s Emerging Sports Talent Promotion Scheme) have commenced at Bauradi Stadium in New Tehri. Talented boys and girls, selected from various development blocks, municipal councils, and town panchayats across the district, are participating in these trials.
Boys and girls in the 8–9 and 9–10 age groups took part in the trials held so far; a total of 245 players from various rural and urban areas participated in the selection process for these age categories. According to the District Sports Office, Tehri Garhwal, the next phase of trials will cover the 11–12 and 12–13 age groups.
The objective of the scheme is to identify the sporting talent of children and youth in the district and provide them with appropriate opportunities and encouragement, enabling talented players to excel in sports and bring laurels to both the district and the state. The District Sports Office states that this selection process aims to provide better opportunities for talented players to advance in their sporting careers.
