Security guard found dead after family reprimands him for mobile addiction

An 18-year-old security guard allegedly ended his life while his family members were busy preparing for the Dasara festival celebrations at home in Varthur police station limits on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Ambrish Thapa, a native of Nepal working as a security guard. He was living with his brothers in a rented house .

Ambrish came a few months ago to work as security guard, but stopped working. After getting salary for two months, he stopped going to work and was always on mobile phone. His elder brother, Rahul reprimanded him for not going to work and wasting time, which could have led him to take the extreme step, said the police .

Rahul told the police that his parents who are in their hometown wanted to see Ambrish, their younger child and Rahul was asking him to return. But Ambrish refused to go and spent most of his time on mobile phone and playing games on it. He had allegedly attempted to end life few days ago after an argument with his family members over the same issue.

The phone addiction has become growing concern among the migrant labourers who are wasting time watching reels on their phones, leading to family feuds. Young adults and even children at the migrant colonies are addicted to phones, and have stopped going to work and school, R. Kaleemullah, a city based social worker, said.

He further urged the authorities concerned to do something about mobile phone de-addiction, which is posing a threat to the families and on the minds of the youth.
