Nainital, September 6, 2026: In view of the heavy rainfall warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Nainital district administration has ordered the closure of all government, aided and private schools from Classes 1 to 12 on Monday, September 7, 2026.
The order was issued on September 6 by the administration, citing the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and intense spells of rain across the district.

Risk of landslides and flash flooding
According to the administration, continuous rainfall in the district has increased the possibility of rapid water flow in rivers, streams and drains, along with landslides at vulnerable locations. The authorities said the precautionary closure has been announced with the safety of students and staff in mind.
Anganwadi centres also closed
The one-day holiday will also apply to all Anganwadi centres in Nainital district on September 7.
The order further states that school principals, headteachers, teaching staff and office staff will also be granted leave.
Residential institutions exempted
The closure order will not apply to residential educational institutions where educational and residential facilities for students are available within the same premises.
The Chief Education Officer, District Education Officers and District Programme Officer have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order.
