C.J. Roy, 57, chairman of real estate firm Confident Group, who was found dead at his Langford Town bungalow on Friday (January 30, 2026), was known for leading a lavish life, marked by a special love for luxury cars.

His Instagram account, Dr. Roy Chiriankandath Joseph, in which he describes himself as a “public figure, Hon. Consul, Slovak Republic, founder and chairman, Confident Group, real estate developer, film producer, Intl Sports Sponsor(sic),” was hugely popular with 1.3 million followers. His posts were often in Kannada and Malayalam, reflecting his roots as a Kerala native who grew up in Bengaluru.

The Embassy of the Slovak Republic in New Delhi lists Mr. Roy as the Honorary Consul for Karnataka and Kerala. It was in this office that he allegedly killed himself.

The Confident Group’s website describes him as a “Doctorate in Business Administration from SBS Business School, Zurich, Switzerland.” It states that after working with major corporations and Fortune 100 International Companies, he ventured out into construction and real estate business.

It lists out his “pioneering concepts” in his two-decades of business experience in the Civil Industry in Bengaluru, stating he was perhaps “the first to design and implement the 4 Side ventilation concept” and in “concrete roads for the townships, which has today become a standard in every township.”

Love for luxury cars

Luxury cars make up for a large part of his Instagram posts, with his love for Rolls Royce reflecting in a November 2025 post: “My 12th Rolls Royce… 1st one bought in 2008, 12th Rolls in my life. Many stayed… some moved on after glorious service”.

The same month, he shared a story about his first car, a red Maruti 800, for which he offered ₹10 lakh to those who found it. “This Maruti 800, I bought in 1994 with my own earnings when I was 25 years old. I bought it for ₹1.10 lakhs… the same amount of money in 1994 would have got me 2 acres of land in Sarjapur! Today, the 2 acres of land in Sarjapur will be worth over ₹20 crores (sic),” he said in the post, adding that the moral of the story is to buy a car, but also buy a small piece of land as it becomes family wealth.

Tryst with fims

Mr. Roy was a film producer, with his latest Malayalam production, Anomie, hitting the screens on February 6. His other productions include Identity, Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea and Mei Hoom Moosa.

He had rewarded Bigg Boss Kannada winner Hanumantha with ₹50 lakh.

Scholarships

Mr. Roy had announced scholarships for students. Last year, he had pledged ₹1 crore to support 201 students studying in schools in Karnataka and Kerala and going to classes 8, 9 and 10.
