Guwahati: The Rajya Sabha on Monday bid farewell to former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, who retired from the Upper House after completing his six-year term as a nominated member.
Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan praised Gogoi’s contributions to the proceedings of the House, describing him as a distinguished jurist who brought considerable legal expertise and experience to parliamentary deliberations.
“His interventions in the Rajya Sabha reflected a deep understanding of the legislative process and a strong sense of public interest,” the Chairman said while addressing the House.
He added that the Upper House would miss Gogoi’s thoughtful counsel, measured interventions and the sense of gravitas he brought to debates and discussions.
On behalf of the members, Radhakrishnan extended his best wishes to Gogoi for the future.
“I hope he will continue to contribute to the nation in different capacities with the same dedication, integrity and spirit of service that he has demonstrated throughout his distinguished career,” he said.
Gogoi, who served as the 46th Chief Justice of India, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in March 2020.
