Rabri Devi seeks more time to vacate govt bungalow, cites Lalu Yadav’s health

Former Chief Minister and the current Leader of the Opposition in the state legislative council, Rabri Devi, has written to the Bihar government seeking one more month to vacate her official residence 10, Circular Road in Patna.

In the representation, she has cited the health condition of her ailing husband, Lalu Prasad Yadav. The former Bihar CM has claimed that doctors have advised special care for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo, who she said remains at risk of infections and requires special arrangements and a separate room.

She also requested the government to provide similar facilities at her newly allotted residence, 39, Harding Road, as the family enjoys at their current bungalow. She said the new house still requires renovation and other preparations before they can move there.

Rabri Devi has said in her letter that her family will shift to the new residence once all necessary arrangements are completed. She has, therefore, requested another month to vacate 10, Circular Road.

Last month, the Bihar government’s Building Construction Department had issued a 15-day notice asking Rabri Devi to vacate her bungalow on Circular Road, which was allotted to her in her capacity as ex-CM.

She was initially asked to vacate it in November last year, when she was allotted a new government residence as part of a broader exercise to accommodate newly inducted ministers in the state government.

At the time, officials had said that Rabri Devi’s status as the LoP of the Bihar Legislative Council made her eligible for a different category of housing.

The Lalu Yadav-Rabri Devi family has lived at 10, Circular Road for nearly two decades. The bungalow has served as the political and personal base of the family, hosting major party decisions, visiting leaders and media briefings.
