The Bengaluru City Police have launched ‘Project Khushi’, a structured health and wellness programme aimed at supporting the long-term physical and mental well-being of police personnel, Home Minister Priyank Kharge said on Tuesday.

The programme will initially be implemented in the Electronics City police division, covering around 600 police personnel. Each batch will undergo a three-month programme comprising health check-ups, expert-led guidance sessions, and digital engagement activities.

The initiative will focus on preventive healthcare, nutrition, physical activity, quality sleep, and stress management, besides other lifestyle factors crucial for the long-term well-being of police personnel.

Pilot programme shows encouraging results

According to the Home Minister, an earlier pilot programme conducted as part of Project Khushi produced encouraging results. Around 61% of participants recorded a reduction in blood sugar levels, while 70% corrected Vitamin B12 deficiencies. In addition, 59% of participants reduced their body weight.

Mr. Kharge said that the results demonstrate that sustained and scientifically designed health interventions can have a positive impact on the well-being of police personnel.

Partnership with health and corporate organisations

“Our police personnel work every day in challenging and stressful conditions to ensure the safety of our communities. It is essential to pay continuous attention to their health. Healthy police personnel are the backbone of an effective and resilient policing system,” Mr Kharge said.

He added that equal importance must be given to mental well-being, a healthy lifestyle, and stress management, along with physical health.
