Pradyot Debbarman dismisses BJP’s claim of clean sweep in Tripura district polls

Agartala: Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Thursday dismissed Chief Minister Manik Saha’s assertion that the BJP was set for a clean sweep in the TTAADC elections and predicted that Tipra Motha’s victory in the district council polls is assured beyond any doubt.

He responded to statements made by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, saying, “A minister, at an open public event, claims that he will peel the skin of Tipra Motha like poultry, and no senior leader reacts. The BJP is making noise here and there to create a narrative that it will definitely wrest power in the ADC. Eventually, they will be able to do nothing. This time, I will personally take charge of South Tripura and other crucial seats where elections are deemed to be tough.”

He commented on the BJP’s approach to the TTAADC elections, linking it to the use of financial resources, saying, “Let me tell you why the BJP is so desperate to contest in TTAADC elections. A section of leaders of the Janajati Morcha has convinced the CM that winning ADC elections is an easy task. They will ask for money to get the work done and eventually fill their pockets with it. They are trying to mislead the state leadership with unverified, selective, unfounded, and rumoured information. They think spending money always translates to electoral victory.”

Urging voters not to hesitate in receiving money, he said, “If they offer money, take it without any hesitation. If they give clothes, Risha, and Rignai, take them and use them. But, when you are casting your vote, be clear in your mind that the Tipra Motha party, which has been founded and grown organically among the people, should get the popular mandate.”

Debbarman also reiterated his stand on installing someone from the tribal community at the top post of political executive in the state. “I am telling you all here. It could be considered an official declaration; if required, please write it down. In 2026, we are coming to power in TTAADC, and in 2028, we shall make someone from our tribal community the face of the Chief Minister of the state,” he declared.

Referring to former BJP MP Rebati Tripura, who has previously criticized Debbarman since the formation of Tipra Motha, Debbarman said, “A short leader claims the BJP has done a lot of favours for the royal family. The airport was renamed after my grandfather. My sister was made an MP. Let me clarify: The airport was renamed after my grandfather as a mark of recognition for his efforts to establish an airport in Tripura. The accord was signed to recognise that the Tiprasas faced discrimination and injustice over the last several decades.”
