Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss has withdrawn the civil suit he had filed before the Chennai City Civil Court, seeking to declare himself as the president of the party.

The dispute over the party’s leadership between Dr. Ramadoss and his son Anbumani Ramadoss had led to the party functioning in two factions in the run-up to the Assembly elections. Dr. Ramadoss had filed the suit seeking a declaration that he was the party president and an injunction restraining Dr. Anbumani from using the PMK’s name, flag, and symbol. In the petition, he had also sought to declare as invalid the Election Commission’s 2023 order recognising Dr. Anbumani as the president of the PMK.

The case had been pending before the Chennai City Civil Court. Meanwhile, following a recent meeting between Dr. Ramadoss and Dr. Anbumani, the two sides have reached an amicable settlement. Subsequently, Dr. Ramadoss filed a memo before the court seeking permission to withdraw the pending suit. The petition stated that, since the parties had resolved their differences and reached a settlement, they no longer wished to pursue the main suit or the interim applications and requested the court to permit their withdrawal.

Accepting the request, the court allowed the withdrawal of the suit and closed all the connected proceedings.
