A person died in an accidental firing when he was hunting with his friends at Kattehaklu village in Tirthahalli taluk on Tuesday night, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as Goutham K.C., 27, of Kolavara village in Basavani gram panchayat. It is suspected that the incident occurred due to unsafe handling of the weapon.

Gautham and his three friends had been hunting late in the night. While ascending a hillock with a loaded weapon, he accidentally put pressure on the trigger and suffered fatal injury.

Tirthahalli Police registered a case on Wednesday. The post-mortem was conducted in Shivamogga later.
