Rajneesh and a group of followers were arrested by customs agents as they tried to flee the US, authorities said. Rajneesh was taken in handcuffs from a jet that authorities had monitored as it and a second plane flew across the country from Rajneeshpuram in Oregon. US customs officials surrounded the planes when they landed at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, authorities said.

Srinagar Bomb Plot

Kashmir police have foiled a plot to blow up the Srinagar television centre by an anti-national group which has been active in the Valley for the last three years, DGP M M Khajuria said. He told newsmen that so far three persons, reported to be kingpins of the group named “Al Jehad”, have been arrested while “many more” have been detained.

MGR Offers to Quit

In a bid to end groupism in the ruling AIADMK, the Chief Minister, M G Ramachandran, has chosen the extreme step of offering to quit office. At the end of a cabinet meeting, MGR suggested that his colleagues choose a new leader and left in a house. Shaken by this, the other ministers met for 45 minutes and discussed steps to assuage the wounded feelings of their leader.

MNF-Centre Talks

Talks between the Home Ministry and Laldenga, chief of the Mizo National Front, on modalities for the rebels laying down their arms have “almost concluded”. Laldenga held another round of talks with Home Secretary R D Pradhan for 90 minutes. He said he would meet with G Parthasarathy, chairman of the planning committee of the External Affairs Ministry, to finalise the constitutional aspects of the accord to end the 20-year-old insurgency.
