NIT Warangal launches mental health centre to promote student wellness

NIT Warangal has inaugurated a dedicated Centre for Mental Health and Wellness to promote emotional well-being among students and faculty. Coinciding with its 67th Foundation Day, the Centre collaborates with Heartfulness Institute and Art of Living Foundation to offer counselling, meditation, and life skills workshops.

Hanamkonda: A dedicated hall for the Centre for Mental Health and Wellness was inaugurated at National Institute of Technology Warangal (NITW) by its Director Prof. Bidyadhar Subudhi recently.

The Centre was set up to coincide with NITW’s 67th Foundation Day in alignment with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It aims to provide a supportive and mindful learning environment for students and faculty through counselling, meditation and wellness programmes.

The Centre was established through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Heartfulness Institute, Kanha Shanti Vanam of Hyderabad on February 9, 2024. NITW renewed its MoU with Heartfulness Institute on May 5, 2025 extending the collaboration for another three years to strengthen ongoing initiatives in mindfulness and student wellness.

The Centre has been hosting workshops on mindfulness and stress relief, practical sessions with the Art of Living Foundation, Bengaluru, where participants were taught Sudarshan Kriya and other relaxation techniques.

A two-day workshop on Barefoot Counselling was conducted for over 150 faculty members, addressed by Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, Programme Director of Expressions India and Dr. Geeta Mehrotra, who focused on life skills and student engagement.

NIT Warangal mental health initiatives were appreciated by the union Ministry of Education Secretary (Higher Education), K Sanjay Murthy. Weekly meditation and yogic practice sessions are being organised for students and faculty.
