The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has commenced construction of a vehicular overpass (VOP) at Sadahalli Junction on NH-44 (Airport Road) in Bengaluru to improve traffic flow and connectivity towards Kempegowda International Airport and Andhra Pradesh.

“The project is aimed at easing vehicular movement at the busy junction, which caters to commuters travelling towards the airport and neighbouring regions. The overpass is expected to facilitate smoother traffic movement, improve traffic efficiency, and strengthen road connectivity along the corridor once completed,” a NHAI official said.

According to NHAI, the project is scheduled for completion by mid-2027, subject to weather and geological conditions. The Bengaluru Traffic Police Department has granted the necessary permissions for traffic diversions and the execution of construction work. Commuters travelling through Sadahalli Junction may experience traffic congestion and diversions during the construction period owing to ongoing work and changes in traffic movement.

In view of the construction, NHAI has advised motorists to exercise caution while approaching the work zone and follow designated traffic diversions and road signboards. Commuters have also been urged by NHAI to comply with instructions issued by the traffic police and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure safe and orderly movement through the area.

“The construction of the overpass is expected to improve traffic efficiency at the junction, particularly for vehicles travelling from Hebbal towards Kempegowda International Airport and Andhra Pradesh,” official added.

The project fulfills a long-standing demand from local residents and commuters, particularly those travelling to the airport. According to NHAI, more than 1.1 lakh vehicles cross the Sadahalli toll plaza every day. Located a short distance from the junction where construction is under way, the toll plaza serves a busy traffic corridor. Sadahalli Junction is the only traffic signal on the main carriageway along the 22-km stretch between Hebbal and Sadahalli.
