In 1995, when Nara Chandrababu Naidu became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (then undivided), he began pitching Hyderabad as the new IT destination of the country. He was able to make due on that claim when, in 1998, IT giant Microsoft established a global R&D centre in the city.
