Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikant Reddy on Wednesday met author and International Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq at her residence in Hassan and extended a formal invitation to her to inaugurate the Dasara festival.
The author was also felicitated by Mr. Reddy and other officers of the Mysuru district administration.
Ms. Musthaq, speaking to the media on the occasion, said that she was happy to receive the invitation, and thanked the people of Karnataka for this honour. She, however, refused to react to any of the statements made by leaders of political parties regarding the State govt.’s decision to invite her for the Dasara inauguration. “I will not react to any comments rights now,” Ms. Mushtaq said.
Mr. Reddy said that the Mysuru district administration had invited the author to inaugurate the Dasara in Mysuru on September 22. “The State government decided to invite Banu Musthaq to inaugurate the festival, and she has happily accepted the invitation,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Mysuru Zilla Panchayat CEO S. Ukesh Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner P. Shivaraj, and other officers from Mysuru.
