A meeting chaired by Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy at the Telangana State Housing Corporation office on Thursday discussed key issues related to housing and revenue in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district. The meeting was attended by Mahbubnagar MP DK Aruna, who raised several concerns regarding the allocation of double-bedroom houses and Indiramma housing beneficiaries.

Aruna highlighted alleged irregularities in the selection process, stressing that many genuine beneficiaries were being overlooked. She reminded officials that the Indiramma housing scheme had central government funding support and urged that Members of Parliament also be allotted a quota of houses to recommend for needy families.

She criticised the practice of restricting approvals to ministers-in-charge, leaving collectors powerless to act on public petitions. The MP alleged that houses were being denied to non-Congress supporters and demanded an inquiry into cancelled Indiramma houses.

She appealed to the government not to politicise housing allocations, insisting that poor families should not be discriminated against on the basis of party affiliation. Aruna also recalled her efforts as a former minister, when she personally spent funds to acquire 78 acres of private land for housing plots in Gadwal, benefiting 1,200 poor families.

She lamented that the land was later taken over by the government for medical and nursing colleges, leaving hundreds of families fighting legal battles despite holding housing pattas.

She urged the minister to ensure justice by allotting double-bedroom houses to these families and to those displaced under various projects. Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy assured that the concerns raised would be given serious consideration. This assurance offers hope to many residents who have been awaiting a fair resolution to their long-standing housing grievances across the district.
