Roshan Kanakala’s new film Mowgli 2025 directed by Sandeep Raj has now hit the big screens. The makers held special premieres in select theatres and let’s see how the movie is.
Story:
Mowgli a.k.a. Krishna (Roshan Kanakala) is an orphan who works in the film industry to make a living. His best friend (Viva Harsha) means the world to him. Mowgli soon finds himself drawn to Jasmine (Sakkshi Mhadolkar), a deaf and speech-impaired background dancer. The two fall in love, but problems keep chasing them one after another. Did their love succeed? That forms the crux of the story.
Plus Points:
Roshan Kanakala already proved his mettle with Bubblegum, and with Mowgli 2025, the young actor once again shows that he is a talent to watch out for. He is the heart and soul of the film without an iota of doubt.
Even though the second half leans heavily on the antagonist, Roshan still leaves a strong impact, especially in the emotional scenes. His sincere performance makes us root for his character. Mowgli features some well-designed moments that leave a good impression.
The police station sequence in the second half involving the hero and villain, and the way the antagonist’s character is ended, are neatly presented. Bandi Saroj Kumar is stunning as the bad cop, and his commanding screen presence is one of the major highlights. Sakkshi Mhadolkar, the female lead, delivers a decent performance.
Minus Points:
The main problem with Mowgli 2025 is its done-to-death concept. The film seems heavily inspired by director Teja’s older movies, where a powerful antagonist takes on a relatively weaker protagonist. This influence is evident in multiple moments, but that’s not the only issue. The screenplay turns dull at several points.
The love track lacks magic and feels quite mundane. The first half also touches upon casting-couch issues within the industry. While the intention is good, the impact doesn’t land as expected. The second half delves into the antagonist’s wicked nature, portraying him as a womaniser, but the narrative becomes repetitive after a point.
The death of an important character is highly predictable, and the film suffers from unnecessary lag. The bigger drawback lies in the Ramayana references, which feel forced. With many films now relying on divine elements, this aspect has become a tough nut to crack, and Mowgli could have handled it much better.
Technical Aspects:
The music by Kaala Bhairava is below-par, as the songs aren’t much appealing. The background score is decent. Visually Mowgli is pretty good. The action sequences are neatly shot, and especially the climax fight is well captured. The editing is not satisfactory with the film giving a dragged feel as it progresses towards the climax. The production values are good.
Director and writer Sandeep Raj did an ordinary job as the film is far from providing a satisfactory experience. While some ideas sound good, the execution isn’t upto the mark. The narrative lacks structure and goes off track multiple times.
Verdict:
Overall, Mowgli 2025 aims to be an intense love story, but the familiar storyline and the so-so screenplay limit its impact. Roshan Kanakala’s performance as an orphan is touching, while Bandi Saroj Kumar is menacing as the villain. A routine plot and underwhelming narration weigh down the film, with only a few moments standing out.
