Man killed in wild elephant attack in Kil Kotagiri

A 44-year-old adivasi man was reportedly killed by a wild elephant in Kil Kotagiri in The Nilgiris forest division late on Friday night. Residents discovered his body on Saturday morning and alerted the Forest Department.

The deceased was identified as K.Kumar, a resident of Mettukkal in Kengarai. Kumar was returning home around 11 p.m on Friday when he is believed to have been attacked and killed by a wild elephant.

Kumar’s body was retrieved and sent for autopsy, following which the Forest Department handed over an interim compensation of ₹50,000 to his next of kin. They said the full compensation of ₹10 lakhs would soon be disbursed to his family.
