Bengaluru city police have arrested a 27-year-old accountant for recording and posting voyeuristic videos of women travelling on Namma Metro using an anonymous account on Instagram.
The arrested, identified as Diganth, 27, hailing from Holenarsipura, Hassan district, has been working as an accountant at a private firm in Murugeshpalya. He has been booked under Sections 77 (voyeurism), 78 (stalking) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, and Section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
“We have successfully tracked down the person who was running the anonymous Instagram account that was posting voyeuristic videos of women travelling on Namma Metro without their consent. All the videos were recorded by the accused himself,” said Lokesh B. Jagalasar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Division), Bengaluru.
Residing at a rented accommodation near Peenya, he used to commute by metro to work. All the 13 videos he had posted on the anonymous Instagram account were recorded by him on his mobile phone during his travel on the metro, the police said.
The police said that the phone has been seized and sent for forensic analysis. Sources said that there could be more videos he had recorded but not yet posted on social media.
The accused Diganth had recently started the anonymous account metro_chicks, posted 13 videos he recorded on Namma Metro, and the account had garnered over 5900 followers, before the videos were deleted, the account flagged and taken down.
