Mamata calls for special session of Parliament to discuss India-Pakistan conflict

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee on Friday (May 23, 2025) called for a special session of Parliament to discuss the recent India-Pakistan conflict.

Prior to this Congress party leadership has made repeated calls demanding a special session of a Parliament on the same issue. The demand for a special session by the Trinamool Congress chairperson comes days after her party agreed on joining an all-party delegation visiting various countries as part of the country’s outreach against terrorism.

“I urge the Union Government to convene a special session of Parliament upon the safe return of the delegation, as I believe the people of this great nation have the foremost right to be informed about the recent conflict and the evolving developments – BEFORE ANYONE ELSE,” Ms. Banerjee posted on social media.

The Chief Minister also said that she was “glad to see an all-party delegation visiting various countries as part of India’s global outreach against terrorism”.

Ms. Banerjee emphasised that she has consistently maintained that the AITC ( All India Trinamool Congress) stands firmly behind any step the Union takes in the national interest and in defence of our sovereignty. Seven all party delegations are visiting various countries in the world highlighting the countries stand against terrorism.

Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has joined an all party delegation visiting Japan. On Friday, Mr. Banerjee visited Tama Cemetery in Tokyo, where he paid tributes to freedom fighter Rash Behari Bose. The Trinamool leader said that “ it was disheartening to see his memorial in such a neglected and dilapidated state”.

” I have requested our Ambassador @AmbSibiGeorge and @IndianEmbTokyo to take up the matter with the concerned authorities and ensure that this remarkable hero receives the honor he truly deserves,” the Trinamool leader said.
