Hyderabad: Kochi Blue Spikers registered a morale-boosting 15-13, 9-15, 15-8, 15-13 win over Calicut Heroes in the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.
Mouhsin Pa was adjudged the Player of the Match.

Kochi began strongly, with blocker Jasjodh Singh earning the opening point. A super serve from Erin Varghese helped Kochi take an early lead despite constant pressure from Calicut’s Ashok Bishnoi.

Calicut’s Shameem halted Kochi’s momentum as captain and setter Mohan Ukkrapandian controlled the play in the middle zone. Despite a spirited fightback from Calicut, Hemanth’s super spike sealed the first set for Kochi.

With smart play from Shameem and Santhosh, Calicut launched a counterattack in the second set. Kochi setter Mouhsin ensured multiple attacking options to maintain the intensity, but Bishnoi’s stellar court coverage helped Calicut stage a comeback and level the match.

Kochi brought back blocker Amrinderpal Singh to contain Calicut’s attacks. However, Bishnoi found a gap to earn a super point, drawing Calicut level once again.

Jasjodh’s clever play and Erin’s consistent hitting kept Kochi ahead, while Calicut libero Mukesh impressed with his defensive work. Amal’s precise placements helped Kochi regain control and edge into the lead.

Abdul Raheem led Calicut’s resistance as the Heroes fought hard to force a decider. But Amal and Erin clinched two consecutive super points for Kochi to close the gap in the fourth set. Hemanth’s all-round performance ultimately proved decisive as the Spikers wrapped up an inspiring win.
