Security forces on Friday continued search operations to track down terrorists believed to be hiding in the Chatroo forest belt of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces have informed that they have not been able to make any fresh contact with terrorists. A group of 3 to 4 terrorists are believed to be hiding in the dense forests.

Security forces, including the Army’s elite Para Commandos, Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) teams, have intensified their search efforts to track down the militants, who are suspected to have split into two groups to evade capture.

According to sources, the terrorists are hiding in the rugged terrain of the Chatroo forest, with search operations now focusing on Singhpora and Beighpora villages, located just 3 kilometres apart.

Despite extensive efforts by the security forces, the terrorists continue to elude them, prompting the deployment of additional teams to comb the area.

Earlier, on Thursday, an Army personnel, Sandip Pandurang from Maharashtra, attained martyrdom during an intense encounter with the terrorists. The authorities held a wreath-laying ceremony in Jammu to honour the fallen Jawan.

Two other Army personnel were injured in the operations and are currently receiving treatment at a military hospital. According to sources, both the personnel are stable currently.

Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat had visited the Singhpora-Chatroo area of District Kishtwar on May 23.

The DGP was accompanied by IGP Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti and DIG DKR Range Shridhar Patil. He held a comprehensive review of the ground situation and strategy with officers leading the operation.
