Karnataka’s Halaga Village Implements Mandatory 7-9 PM ‘Digital Detox’ With Daily Siren

In an inspiring initiative reported by India Today, Halaga village in Karnataka’s Belagavi district has declared a mandatory ‘digital detox’ every evening. As per the report filed with inputs from reporter Nagarjun Dwarakanath, a siren sounds at 7 pm signaling residents to switch off televisions and mobile phones until 9 pm. The initiative, titled ‘No TV, No Mobile, Just Study and Conversation’, aims to combat screen addiction and encourage reading and family interaction. Inspired by a similar model in Maharashtra, the rule is voluntary but has received strong community support. Residents claim the detox has improved students’ focus and family bonding.
