D.K. Shivakumar assumes office as Karnataka CM in the name of late seer Gangadhar Ajjayya
Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar took oath as the chief minister of Karnataka in the name of the late seer Gangadhara Ajjayya while holding a copy of the Constitution. He also offered floral tributes to the seer on stage before taking oath.
Mr. Shivakumar was sworn in at Lok Bhavan by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at 4.15 p.m. on Wednesday.
In sharp contrast, G. Parameshwara (former Home Minister) took oath as Deputy Chief Minister in the name of B.R. Ambedkar. He was followed by K.H. Muniyappa (former Food and Supplies Minister) and K.J. George (former Energy Minister) who took oath of office in the name of God.
M.B. Patil (former Large and Medium Industries Minister) took oath in the name of Vishwaguru Basavanna and other Sharanas, as well as Siddheshwar Swamiji.
Soon after, following an instruction from the Governor to the Ministers to stick to the text provided to them, former transport minister Ramalinga Reddy, former PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi, former Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda and former IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge, took oath “sincerely”.
The streak was soon broken by former Speaker U.T. Khader who took oath in the name of God, followed by former Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre who took oath in the name of God and Lingayat seer Lingaikya Channabasava Pattadevaru.
While Yathindra Siddaramaiah, newly-inducted Cabinet minster, took oath in the name of the Constitution, the ceremony ended with former Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh and former Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil taking oath in the name of God.
