JN.1 variant drives Covid-19 cases spike in Maharashtra

Covid-19 is once again trying to spread its feet in the country. According to the latest information, 33 new cases of corona virus have been reported in Maharashtra. At present, 145 positive cases are being reported so far. Although their number is not so high that the governments would impose any kind of restrictions on the people, but the sudden increase in Covid cases is definitely a matter of concern for the people.

Corona cases reported in 11 states

The new variant of Covid-19 in India, JN.1, has once again emerged as a challenge for the health system and the public. The Health Ministry’s data till May 19, 2025 said that there are 257 active cases in the country, including 164 new cases. It was then said that 95 cases were reported in Kerala, 66 in Tamil Nadu and 56 in Maharashtra. It was told that one death has also occurred in Kerala. It is being told that the new variant of Covid-19 is a descendant of BA.2.86 of Omicron. This variant is spreading rapidly with more than 30 mutations, although its symptoms are mild and the need for hospitalization is less. People have been advised by the government to be cautious about Covid-19. It is being said that immediate investigation on symptoms like cold, cough or fever, use of mask, and avoiding crowded places is necessary.

Is the new wave of Covid deadly?

The rise of the new variant of Covid-19 JN.1 Omicron remains a matter of concern in India. Experts say that the symptoms of this variant are mild and the need for hospitalization is less. Experts are advising vigilance, masks and booster doses.
