Jewellery worth Rs 40 lakh, cash burgled from Guwahati home

An FIR has been registered at Paltan Bazar Police Station in Guwahati Central district following a complaint of theft of gold and silver jewellery and cash from a residence in Rehabari.

FIR No. 0213/26 was registered on August 13, 2026, at Paltan Bazar Police Station.

According to the complaint submitted by Deepkamal Sharma, the theft is believed to have taken place between around 10 am and 3.30 pm on August 12, when all members of the family were away at work.

The complaint states that Sharma’s father, Omprakash Sharma, returned home at around 3.30 pm and found the main gate open and unlocked. After checking the house, he found that the lock of a small internal locker inside a Godrej almirah had been broken.

The family found that jewellery boxes kept inside the locker were empty and that gold and silver jewellery, along with cash, was missing. The complaint states that other rooms and household items appeared normal, with no major disturbance reported inside the house.

Sharma said he reached home shortly after being informed and checked the house and locker. He then called 112 and informed the police. Police personnel arrived at the residence around 30 minutes later and inspected the house, the almirah and the broken locker.

The stolen items listed in the complaint include a gold necklace, 11 gold earring sets, three gold chains, seven gold rings, a gold baby lace, a gold Shishful, a 10-gram gold coin, two gold chudi/bangles, two gold nose pins and a gold mang tika.

The list also includes two broken gold rings, a half-kilogram silver bar, seven sets of silver payal, eight silver bichiya, 50 silver coins, two silver earrings, three sets of silver baby bangles and 2kg of old silver jewellery. Cash amounting to Rs 20,000 was also reported missing.

The complainant has estimated the total value of the stolen property at between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 40 lakh. The complainant requested registration of an FIR, investigation into the theft and steps to identify those involved and recover the stolen property.

The case has been registered at Paltan Bazar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
