There is good news for candidates preparing for government jobs after completing Class 10. The India Post has announced the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment 2026, under which eligible candidates can apply for the posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak.
The recruitment process will be conducted entirely online. Candidates are required to complete the registration and application process within the prescribed dates.
India Post GDS Recruitment 2026: Important Dates
According to the recruitment schedule, the One-Time Registration (OTR) process will remain open from August 31 to September 19, 2026, until 5 PM.
The online application submission and fee payment process will be conducted from September 2 to September 21, 2026. Candidates who need to make corrections in their applications will get an opportunity to do so during the September 23-24, 2026 correction window.
Who Can Apply for India Post GDS Recruitment?
Candidates who have passed Class 10 from a recognized board are eligible to apply for the GDS recruitment.
Applicants must have studied Mathematics and English as subjects in Class 10. In addition, candidates are required to have knowledge of the regional language applicable to the post or area for which they are applying.
The prescribed age limit is 18 to 40 years. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit as per government rules.
India Post GDS Salary
Candidates selected for the post of Branch Postmaster (BPM) will receive a Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) of ₹12,000 to ₹29,380.
For Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak, the TRCA will range from ₹10,000 to ₹24,470.
Apart from the TRCA, selected candidates will also be eligible for Dearness Allowance (DA) and other applicable allowances according to the rules.
No Written Exam for GDS Recruitment
One of the major highlights of the India Post GDS recruitment is that there will be no written examination.
Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of a merit list prepared using their Class 10 marks. Those shortlisted will subsequently be required to appear for document verification and complete the remaining selection formalities.
This makes the recruitment particularly significant for 10th-pass candidates who are looking for government employment opportunities without having to appear for a competitive written examination.

Candidates belonging to the General, OBC and EWS categories are required to pay an application fee of ₹100.
However, female candidates, SC, ST, PwBD and trans-woman candidates are exempt from paying the application fee, as per the recruitment rules.
