In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the Delhi government’s Jal Board (DJB) has transferred 41 executive engineers. According to an official order, the officers have been relieved from their current postings and directed to immediately join their new assignments.

An official order states that they are required to complete the handover process by June 9, 2025, failing which strict disciplinary action will be taken. The transfer order was issued with the approval of the office of the deputy director.

While the specific reasons are not explicitly stated, the transfers could likely impact various divisions within the Water Ministry.

The Jal Board has been in the news recently for multiple developments. Delhi’s Water Minister Parvesh Verma, in a statement to Aaj Tak, said that the government is planning to waive the late payment surcharge on domestic water bills, offering nearly 80 to 90 per cent relief to consumers. The decision is expected to benefit lakhs of residents who have faced issues due to incorrect billing by the DJB.

In another significant move, the Jal Board is also part of an inter-departmental initiative to boost boat tourism and ferry services on the Yamuna river. As per a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in March, five departments from the Centre and Delhi government – including the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), DJB, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, and Delhi Tourism – agreed to collaborate on the project.

Under the MoU, the DJB will oversee guidelines for permissible activities, monitor water quality, manage barrages to maintain navigable depth, and address operational challenges during boat services.
