The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert to AP and Telangana as the low-pressure area would form over the Bay of Bengal by the 19th and move towards the South Odisha-North Andhra coasts. Thus, rains are expected in the both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and a ‘yellow’ alert has been raised for many districts. Moderate rains are expected in various districts of Telangana today and tomorrow viz. Hyderabad, Medak, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Nagarkurnool, Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Siddipet, and Ranga Reddy districts.
Due to the low-pressure system, the Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain forecast for Telangana for the four day period from 20 th-23 rd this month. Rains are expected in Hyderabad and several other districts with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, the public had been warned. Rainfall intensity is expected increase across the state starting the 19th and moderate rains are likely in Hyderabad till Sunday.
Gusty winds are also expected in the city and a public is advised to be cautious. Travelers, however, are advised to take necessary precautions during the rainy spell. However, the state so far records a rainfall deficit with only 536.6 mm of rainfall and the Meteorological Department confirmed that a 19 percent rainfall deficit so far.
The IMD has forecasted rains in several parts of Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema with gusty winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 kmph and thunderstorms and lightning are likely in some areas. A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for several districts in AP and the fishermen advised to avoid venturing out to the sea.
