IIT Guwahati, Tata Electronics to set up semiconductor training centre

Guwahati: IIT Guwahati and Tata Electronics have signed an agreement to establish a Centre of Excellence on the institute’s campus, focused on semiconductor assembly, testing, marking and packaging (ATMP).

The centre will offer industry-aligned education, practical training and research opportunities in semiconductor packaging. IIT Guwahati will lead the development and delivery of diploma-level and BTech programmes, which will include hands-on training.

The partnership also aims to extend semiconductor education across Assam and the Northeast.

The institutions plan to identify engineering colleges, universities and polytechnics for participation, develop specialised course materials, and train faculty members. Students from partner institutions will have access to practical training, including opportunities at Tata Electronics, as well as collaborative research projects.

The memorandum of understanding was signed at IIT Guwahati by Prof. Rohit Sinha, Dean of Research and Development, and Ranjan Bandyopadhyay, Tata Electronics’ chief human resources officer.

IIT Guwahati Director Prof. Devendra Jalihal said the initiative would connect academic institutions, industry and students through specialised education, practical training and research.

He said identifying institutions across Assam and developing semiconductor-focused curricula would widen access to technical education and strengthen the region’s talent pipeline.
