Gold, silver objects stolen at temple near Arakkonam

Police said this is the second incident in the village after burglars decamped with valuables from Draupadi Amman temple in the village recently.

Burglars decamped with 12 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver objects and cash from an Amman temple at Kilvenbakkam village that comes under Nemili panchayat union near Arakkonam town in Ranipet on Saturday.

Police said that it was around 6 a.m. when a group of residents and temple priests came to the local Amman temple. They found the lock in the door of the temple was broken. They found that the gold jewellery on the deity was missing. Silver objects were also not found.

As residents went around the temple, they found the lock in the hundi was also broken and the cash in the hundi was also missing. Police said the village witnessed the annual temple festival recently. Hundreds of devotees from neighbouring villages attended the festival.

Based on a complaint by temple authorities, a case was registered by Nemili police. Special teams were formed to nab the culprits. Police are also analyzing CCTV footage in the area. 

Police said this is the second incident in the village after burglars decamped with valuables from Draupadi Amman temple in the village recently. Last month, gold jewellery from Murugan temple in neighbouring Sampathurayanpet village went missing.
