Ghazipur Girl Murder: 19-year-old forced to consume poison over interfaith relationship in UP; mother, brother arrested | Prayagraj News

PRAYAGRAJ: Ghazipur police have arrested two persons, including a woman and her son, on charges of killing her 19-year-old daughter after allegedly being angered by her relationship with a Hindu youth. The accused, identified as Afsana (48) and her son Afsar (26), were arrested near Tikri turn village on Monday evening while allegedly planning to escape. Police said the body of Farzana, daughter of Imam Kha and a resident of Paigampur Bakri village, was found under mysterious circumstances on March 2 in the field of Bodhan Kumar outside the village under the limits of Ghazipur police station in Fatehpur district. Following the incident, an FIR was registered against unknown persons under Sections 103(1) and 238 of the BNS. During the investigation, police analysed surveillance data and call detail records (CDR). According to the police, the mother and brother allegedly took Farzana to a pulses field and forced her to consume sulphas powder on the intervening night of March 1 and 2.

After the incident, they allegedly shifted her body to another field. Police said the mother then went to Fatehpur while the brother returned home. On March 2, the mother allegedly returned from Fatehpur and approached Ghazipur police regarding her daughter’s death. However, when asked to lodge a complaint, both the mother and son reportedly refused, saying they did not want to pursue legal action. Police later analysed the CDR and location data of both accused and found they were in constant contact after leaving the spot separately. After further investigation and collection of evidence, the police concluded that Farzana was allegedly killed by her mother and brother, who were reportedly angered by her relationship with a Hindu man. Police said the accused forced her to consume sulphas powder due to fears related to her relationship and concerns about social reputation.
