Four alleged shooters were killed and one injured in a police encounter in Gurugram’s upscale Sushant Lok Phase-2 late on Thursday (July 9, 2026) evening, after they opened fire at the house of a prominent businessman.

According to the police, the Crime Branch received information through the control room in the evening about armed men roaming in a black Sports Utility Vehicle. While searching the Sushant Lok Phase-2 area, police found that the businessman had been receiving repeated threats and extortion calls from a gangster based abroad.

“When police reached the spot, the accused started firing at the businessman’s house with sophisticated weapons,” an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sadar, Dharambir Singh told reporters at the scene. “On being challenged, they also fired at the police. In self-defence, police retaliated.”

In the exchange of fire, all five shooters were hit. They were rushed to the hospital, where four were declared dead. One is undergoing treatment.

Three police personnel were also injured in the encounter and are receiving medical care.

Police said the businessman’s house was targeted with gunfire. The identity of the deceased shooters and details of the extortion amount are yet to be confirmed. The role of any specific gang is also under investigation.

Yellow crime scene tape was put up at the spot the senior police officer briefed the media late at night.
