The Telugu states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are enduring a scorching heatwave, with temperatures soaring between 43 and 47 degrees Celsius. Bhadrachalam recorded the highest at nearly 47°C, as early as 8:00 AM, with the sun turning into a fiery orb. The Meteorological Department warns these conditions are expected to last for another one or two days, before the monsoon provides some relief.
A ‘Red Alert’ has been issued for districts in North Telangana, along with Nalgonda and Khammam, due to extreme temperatures. Several other districts have received ‘Orange Alerts’. Officials warn that temperatures exceeding 45°C could cause environmental imbalance, with some districts experiencing a rise of two to three degrees in a single day.
Similar conditions prevail in Andhra Pradesh, where daytime temperatures are also between 44 and 47°C. Piduguralla in Palnadu district recorded the highest temperature of the season. An Orange Alert has been issued for districts including West and East Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, and others, amid fears of severe heatwaves.
Residents faced oppressive humidity, but some relief came with rain during the night. The Meteorological Department predicts further rainfall today in several districts, influenced by a surface trough.
Authorities have issued crucial warnings, advising the public to postpone travel between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM and avoid outdoor activities unless necessary. Special caution is recommended for the elderly, pregnant women, and children. People are urged to stay hydrated with ORS, electrolytes, buttermilk, and coconut water.
