District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan conducted a site inspection of the 12-kilometer-long, under-construction greenfield four-lane bypass project linked to the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor to assess the progress of construction work. During the inspection, he directed officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to accelerate the construction work while ensuring high-quality execution.
While inspecting various construction sites, the District Magistrate gathered detailed information regarding the current status of the work, construction quality, availability of machinery and manpower, and overall progress. He emphasized that this project is a vital piece of infrastructure serving the public interest; its completion will reduce traffic congestion in Dehradun city and provide local residents and tourists with safer, smoother, and improved connectivity.
The District Magistrate stated that no unnecessary obstacles or delays in the construction work would be tolerated. He instructed NHAI officials to ensure the availability of adequate machinery, resources, and labor at the sites to expedite the work and to ensure regular monitoring of every phase. Placing special emphasis on quality, he directed that all work be carried out in accordance with prescribed technical standards. He also mandated strict adherence to safety protocols at the construction sites and directed that traffic management, warning signs, barricading, and other safety measures be effectively maintained to prevent any inconvenience to the public.
The District Magistrate directed officials to conduct regular reviews of the project and ensure the prompt resolution of any issues—whether related to land, technical aspects, or administration—so that construction could proceed without hindrance.
This project begins at Jhajhra and connects to the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor near the Asharodi Check Post, linking with the new Paonta Sahib/Ballupur section of National Highway-7. With an estimated cost of approximately ₹716 crore, the project is expected to be completed by April 2027. Upon the project’s completion, heavy and transit traffic can be diverted away from the city, leading to a significant reduction in traffic congestion within Dehradun. Additionally, the urban transport system will become more streamlined, and the quality of life for citizens will see a positive improvement.
During the inspection, NHAI officials briefed the District Magistrate on the project’s current progress, remaining tasks, and the upcoming work plan. The District Magistrate emphasized that completing this vital public-interest project in a timely, safe, and high-quality manner must be the top priority for all concerned departments.
City Magistrate Rakesh Tiwari, Tehsildar (Sadar) Surendra Dev, and NHAI officials were present during the inspection.
