Dibrugarh: The students of Dibrugarh University staged a demonstration at Jyoti Batsora to protest the alleged insult of the Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) delegation by Assam Education Minister and for not issuing a notification for the 50 per cent subsidy in self-finance courses at Dibrugarh University.
“Yesterday, a delegation of PGSU met with Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu at his residence in Dhemaji, where they were allegedly insulted by the minister. Today, we have staged a sit-in demonstration in protest against the insult of the PGSU delegation,” said an agitated student of Dibrugarh University.
He said, “The government has announced the 50 per cent subsidy in self-finance courses at Dibrugarh University, and it was provided for two terms. But this time, no notification regarding the subsidy has been issued. PGSU is an elected body, and the insult to the members of the body will not be tolerated.”
“Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, ‘What would you achieve by protesting?’. We want a 50 percent reduction in our admission fees. If our demands are not met, we will continue our protest,” another student said.
