DGP CV Anand has expressed his gratitude to the Telangana government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, for appointing him as the state’s Director General of Police (DGP).
Speaking to the media on Friday, Anand pledged to work tirelessly to realise the government’s aspirations. He highlighted that Telangana Police currently holds the top rank nationally, with a reputation for effective law enforcement, crime control, and investigation.
Anand emphasised the department’s leading role in adopting technology, particularly in criminal investigations, where Telangana ranks first in the country. He pointed out the rising threat of cybercrimes and stressed the importance of District Superintendents of Police (SPs) in tackling this issue.
He also announced plans to establish ‘Eagle’ and Narcotics Cells to combat the drug menace, which he described as widespread across society. A state-level Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau will also be set up to address traffic concerns.
Addressing other concerns, Anand said special focus would be given to women’s safety, child trafficking, and natural disaster management. He revealed that a reorganisation of the police force was underway, with units like Greyhounds and SIB, tasked with Naxalite eradication, to be utilised effectively.
He added that a report on vacancies would be submitted shortly, with reforms to recruitment and training processes. Artificial Intelligence (AI), currently used in the private sector, would also be introduced into police operations.
Anand warned officers to adhere to established traditions and protocols, emphasising the importance of traditional investigative methods over sole reliance on CCTV footage. He also issued a stern warning that the police would take action against cow slaughter and cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands.
