Prayagraj: As the shaadi season kickstarts with an estimate 10,000 weddings slated to take place across the region, there is a surge in demand for vintage luxury cars and wedding ‘baggis’ across Sangam City. The wedding season begining on Nov 2 and will continue until Dec 6. For these 35 days, most marriage pandals, hotels, and other venues are already booked. “While earlier vintage cars, ‘baggis’, and ‘dolis’ were sought only by a few seekers or families hosting weddings at resorts, marriage pandals, and hotels, now they are being sought for almost every wedding. Every groom wants to make his entry in a vintage or luxury car or decorated wedding ‘baggi’,” admitted owners of vintage cars and ‘baggis’, who are now sourcing the same from other cities. Noted religious scholar Dr Amitabh Gour told TOI, “With Dev Uthani Ekadashi falling on Saturday (beginning from 9:12 am on Saturday and ending 7:32 pm on Sunday), the wedding season will begin for the next 35 days from November 2 to December 6.” Apart from wedding venues, decorators, designers, and event organisers, marriage seekers are running pillar to post to ensure the availability of wedding ‘baggis’ and vintage cars.Sahil Siddiqui, who arranges both vintage and luxury cars for weddings, says, “For weddings, red and white vintage cars cost between Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 for the baraat (marriage procession) and bidai of the bride and groom.” He, however, said, “Demand for the latest luxury cars has also gone up among seekers who are ready to pay Rs 25,000 onwards for a day.” Similarly, instead of original vintage cars, convertible modified versions are preferred.However, the most in-demand wedding baggis are Bahubali, Victoria, and Flower baggis’ as per their style and decoration. A ‘baggi’ owner at Katra, adding, “As far as we are receiving bookings, youngsters are a step ahead to prefer baggis”. ‘Baggis’ are available from Rs 15,000 to Rs 40,000. Secondly, those seeking vintage cars are liking them as per theme of the weddings. Vintage cars and dolis are crucial props at weddings. Interestingly, demand for vintage cars or baggis is being received from both rural and urban areas.
