Agartala: Delhi-based content creator Amir Shokeen has been arrested over his objectionable remarks against a youth from Tripura’s indigenous community and is in Delhi Police custody, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said.
The Chief Minister said a team of Tripura Police had left for Delhi to bring the accused back to the state after completion of the necessary legal formalities.
Saha said he had directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to take prompt action after the matter came to his notice. The state police also contacted Delhi Police to trace the accused, he said.
“I immediately told the DGP to speak to the Delhi Police Commissioner. He spoke to him and said he would share further information,” the Chief Minister said.
According to Saha, the accused was subsequently traced and arrested by Delhi Police. He said the process of bringing him to Tripura was under way.
The Chief Minister said the state police team had already proceeded to Delhi and would take custody of the accused after the necessary legal procedures were completed.
The alleged remarks against the youth from Tripura’s indigenous community have triggered reactions in the state, with demands for legal action against the content creator.
The next steps in the case, including the accused’s transfer to Tripura, will depend on the completion of the relevant legal procedures, the Chief Minister said.
There was no immediate response from the accused or his representatives to the allegations.
