Jamia Millia Islamia witnessed controversy following the appearance of slogans like Free Kashmir, Free Sharjeel Imam, and Death to RSS, BJP on campus walls. The university administration wiped off the graffiti and heightened security outside the campus. Protesting students on a hunger strike condemned the slogans, alleging an attempt to derail their ongoing agitation demanding student union elections and protesting disciplinary action. A political row erupted as Congress MP Imran Masood backed the students’ demand for union polls and bail for Sharjeel Imam while alleging sabotage by opponents. The BJP termed the graffiti a conspiracy by anti-national forces, while the Samajwadi Party supported the demand for student union elections.
