Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), an ally of the ruling BJP, on Monday announced their candidates for the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), setting the stage for a multi-cornered contest.
With these announcements, most parties, barring the BJP and Tipra Motha, have declared their candidates for the crucial polls.
The Congress, which has forged an alliance with smaller regional outfits such as the Tipraha People’s Party (TPP) and Gana Mancha, has fielded candidates in all 28 seats. Among its nominees are Ramnanjay Reang (Damchara-Jampui), Arjun Roy (Machmara), Jatibrata Deb (Dasda-Kanchanpur), Dhirendra Debbarma (Karamchherra), and Surjalal Chakma (Chawmanu).
Other key candidates include Ratan Paul (Manu-Chailengta), Harinath Debbarma (Demcherra-Kachu Cherra), Dinaram Reang (Ganga Nagar-Ganda Cherra), and Pranab Debbarma (Halahali-Asharam Bari), among others, reflecting the party’s attempt to balance representation across constituencies.
Meanwhile, the IPFT released its first list of nine candidates. According to a statement issued by its general secretary Swapan Debbarma, the party has nominated Udar Ram Reang (Damchara-Jampui), Dhananjoy Reang (Maharani-Pur-Teliamura), Swapan Debbarma (Ramchandraghat), Rajendra Debbarma (Simna-Tomakari), and Bikash Debbarma (Amtali-Golaghati).
