Ooty MLA R. Ganesh, along with office-bearers from the Congress party, met the Nilgiris Superintendent of Police N.S. Nisha on Friday, urging the police not to permit AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami to speak at any more public meetings in the district until he offers his apology to TNCC president K. Selvaperunthagai.
The plea comes in the wake of comments made by Mr. Palaniswami in Gudalur on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), when he referred to Mr. Selvaperunthagai as a “person in need wearing patched clothes,” in reference to his stints with different political parties throughout his career.
In their petition, the Nilgiris District Congress Committee, condemning the remarks, said that Mr. Palaniswami, unmindful that he was the leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister, made distasteful remarks against the TNCC president.
They called for action to be taken against Mr. Palaniswami and for the police to ban his rallies until he offered an unconditional apology for his remarks.
