Special parties were organised at various restaurants, hotels and cafés, where families and friends gathered to celebrate with music, food and themed decorations. Several residential colonies hosted community parties that fostered togetherness and festive spirit among neighbours. All the major markets of the city, especially Civil Lines, Ashok Nagar, Katra, etc, witnessed a beeline of customers since early morning, particularly at shops selling flowers, bouquets and greeting items. Bakeries and cake shops reported brisk sales, with popular designs and flavours selling out quickly. Gift shops too remained crowded, as youths were seen exchanging presents and greeting each other with warm wishes. Despite the cold conditions, parks across the city remained packed with visitors. Families, couples and groups of youngsters thronged prominent green spaces, enjoying picnics, photography sessions and leisurely walks. Children were seen playing while elders soaked in the festive atmosphere. However, several roads and major crossings, especially those leading towards the Magh Mela area, witnessed traffic congestion. The rush was attributed to the arrival of kalpwasis, who began reaching the mela area ahead of their month-long kalpwas starting from Jan 3 on the occasion of Paush Purnima. The weather too played a supportive role, with bright sunshine prevailing throughout the day. The pleasant conditions further boosted the zeal and enthusiasm of revelers.
